Titanic: The Legacy Of A Leviathan

Titanic was built in 1909 and finally launched in 1911. It took one more year to furnish the inside.

Life  In Third Class

There were over 1000 third class passengers on the Titanic. Their accommodation was much more modest than the other two classes. The size of the rooms compared to first and second class reflected the class attitudes of the age. The first class Turkish Bath was larger than the third class galley! A thousand passengers would rely on the galley but only a handful would have used the Turkish Bath.

The accommodations in the lower decks was much the same, or even better, as the bottom class folks lived at their home. Third class cabins were mostly located in the lower decks or less desirable parts of the ship, all single men and women were separated. Men in the bow and women in the stern. Families, however, were allowed to stay together in small comfortable rooms.

General Room

The General Room, with its pine paneling and sturdy teak furniture, was the third class equivalent to a lounge

Dining Room

The Dining Room, situated on the Middle Deck, and extended the full width of the ship. It could seat approximately seat 470 passengers in each of the three sittings
